Brewing a Pot of Tea (Golden Rule)

Ingredients

Loose tea leaves (adjust according to tea type and personal taste) 1 tsp per cup
Fresh cold water (from tap or filter pitcher) to taste

Instructions

1

Boil water

Add fresh cold water to a kettle and bring to a boil.

2

Warm the teapot

When the water is about to boil, pour some into the teapot, swirl it around the inside, then pour it out.

3

Add tea leaves

Add tea leaves to the teapot or a teapot with an infuser at a ratio of 1 teaspoon per cup of tea.

4

Pour the water

Pour the hot water over the tea leaves (use water at about 95°C, just off the boil, for black tea and oolong; use water at 80°C–95°C for white tea and green tea).

5

Steep and separate

Cover the teapot and steep for the appropriate time depending on the type of tea. If using an infuser, remove it once the tea reaches the desired strength; alternatively, pour the tea into another pre-warmed teapot to separate the leaves from the liquid.
