Washing a Silk Square Scarf
Describes how to hand-wash silk square scarves with a neutral detergent, refresh the colors with a vinegar rinse, and finish by drying in the shade and ironing.
Ingredients
Instructions
Soaking
Place the square scarf in water and add detergent. First dissolve soap flakes or detergent with hot water, then let it cool before submerging the scarf.
Rinsing and Rubbing
Gently rub the scarf with your hands in large handfuls. Do not use a washboard, and avoid wringing the scarf at all costs.
Color Enhancement
After washing, add a few drops of vinegar to the basin and soak for a few minutes to make the silk color more vibrant.
Drying
Hang the square scarf in a cool, shaded area to dry. Do not expose it to direct sunlight.
Ironing
When the scarf is about 80% dry, cover it with a white cloth and iron it. The iron temperature must not exceed 130°C.
Storage
Once the square scarf is clean, store it in your wardrobe if it is not in use. Keep it in a dark place to prevent the silk from absorbing ultraviolet rays and turning yellow or discolored.
