Classic Oven-Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Story

This simple method mimics the traditional iron barrel roasting technique. Wrapping the potatoes in foil creates a mini-steamer, guaranteeing a tender, creamy texture without drying out the skin.

Ingredients

Sweet potatoes 4 medium (uniform size)
Aluminum foil enough to wrap each potato
Sea salt pinch (optional)

Instructions

1

Prep the Potatoes

Thoroughly scrub the sweet potatoes under running water to remove all dirt. Pat them completely dry with a kitchen towel.

2

Wrap Tightly

Individually wrap each dried potato in aluminum foil, ensuring the seams are tight to trap the steam effectively during baking.

3

Roast at High Heat

Place the foil-wrapped potatoes directly on the lower rack of an oven preheated to 230°C (450°F). Bake for approximately 40 minutes. Cooking time may vary based on size; larger tubers may need up to an hour.

4

Rest and Check

Turn off the oven and let the potatoes rest inside for 5 minutes. Carefully unwrap a potato and pierce the center with a fork or knife—if it slides in easily, they are ready to serve.
