Ingredients

White fondant (dye 68 oz light blue and 4 oz yellow) 72 oz
Buttercream frosting (made according to recipe, used for smoothing) to taste
Food coloring (Spider-Man color set (blue, red, black), golden yellow) to taste
Spider-Man baking pan (made according to mold) 1
Wilton tips #3 and #14 (for various decorations) Nos. 3 and 14
Foam core board (used as base) 16 x 22 inches (1/2 inch thick)
Non-toxic chalk (blue, for defining wall cracks) to taste
Letter cutter set (for cutting letters) 1

Instructions

1

Prepare the base board in advance

Dye 68 oz of fondant light blue. Prepare and wrap the foam core board with rolled fondant (page 123). Use a small texture tool to mark random lines as wall cracks and openings. Starting from the bottom, mark 1 x 2 inch wide bricks. Grind the blue chalk with a tea strainer; brush the mixture over the marks to enhance the effect.

2

Make the letters

Dye approximately 4 oz of fondant yellow. Roll out to 1/8 inch thick. Use the letter cutters from the set to cut out the message. Let dry on a surface dusted with cornstarch.

3

Process the cake

Bake and cool the cake. Place it on a wrapped and trimmed cake board (page 112). Smooth the cake sides and background area.

4

Outline the spider and eyes

Use tip #3 to outline and fill in the eyes and spider (smooth with fingers dipped in cornstarch). Use tip #3 to outline all of the details.

5

Cover with decorations

Cover the surface with stars using tip #14.

6

Assemble and finish

Place the cake on the fondant-wrapped base board. Pipe a bead border along the bottom edge with tip #3. Attach the letters using a wet brush.
