Ham Sandwich Cake

Story

This creative sandwich cake transforms ordinary bread into something special. The layers hide a creamy ham filling punctuated by mild leeks, while fresh vegetables peek through the top. Serve chilled for best texture.

Ingredients

white bread (square or rectangular slices) 6 slices
deli ham 200g, thinly sliced
sour cream 200g
green onions (scallions) 2 stalks, finely chopped
cucumber 1 small, sliced
cherry tomatoes 6-8, halved
mixed salad greens 1 handful
cheddar cheese 4 slices
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
fresh dill or parsley for garnish

Instructions

1

Prep the bread and filling

Trim the crusts off all bread slices to create neat rectangles. Finely chop the ham strips, then mix with sour cream, chopped scallions, a pinch of salt, and pepper in a bowl until well combined.

2

Build the base layers

Place two bread slices side by side on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of the ham cream mixture across them. Add a second layer of bread and repeat with more filling. Top with the third bread layer.

3

Add the vegetable layer

Arrange cucumber slices and mixed greens on top of the final bread layer. Tuck cherry tomato halves in among the greens for color. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

4

Finish with cheese and ham

Lay cheese slices over the vegetables, then top with remaining ham slices in an overlapping pattern. Garnish with fresh herbs.

5

Chill and serve

Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors meld and the layers set. Slice into neat squares or triangles to serve.
