Model Rose
Hand-molding technique for creating decorative roses using sugar paste or marzipan.
Ingredients
Instructions
Make the flower center
Take a ball of paste and shape it into a rose shape with a pointed top, keeping the connected base at the bottom
Make the petals
Press the edges of the paste ball thin to paper thickness, keeping the center thicker for support. You can press out extremely thin edges between two polyethylene sheets with your fingers. Dampen the inner center of the petal, wrap it around the pointed top of the flower center, and fold one side edge backward
Assemble the petals
Repeat making petals, tucking one side of the next petal into the first petal. Make larger petals, fold the outer edges back, and attach to the outside. Usually five petals are enough (two for the bud, three for the surrounding)
Coloring (optional)
If bright colors are needed (such as magenta), powder can be used to color the marzipan, or paint the finished dry rose (needs to be moistened with steam first)
Assembly
Use a knife to cut the rose from the base. Use green paste to make leaves and stems, or use materials such as maidenhair fern to match
