Ingredients

Cupcakes (lemon or basic vanilla flavor (see p.26 or p.18)) 1

Frosting (see p.16) 1

Royal icing (see p.16) 2 tbsp

Gel food coloring (various colors) to taste

Silver sugar pearls (optional, not suitable for young children) to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Cake

Make cupcakes according to the chosen recipe and let them cool before use.

Apply Base Color

Make frosting and tint it with gel color (blue or green recommended). Cover the cake and let dry.

Prepare Piping

Divide royal icing into three to four portions and tint each with your chosen colors. Load into piping bags fitted with fine tips. If you are not skilled, practice on a plate first.

Pipe the Decorations

Starfish: pipe a five-pointed star, fill with small dots, and add facial features. Fish: outline the shape, fill in scales and features with other colors. Octopus: pipe small dots around the body, continuing down the tentacles. Vary the designs—make three or four different fish as well as octopus or starfish.
