Step 1
Wash the hawthorns and remove the pits. (If preparing a large amount, it is recommended to soak them in water after pitting to prevent oxidation and turning black.)
Step 2
Set the pitted hawthorns aside.
Step 3
Put the hawthorns into a blender, add clean water and blend until crushed. I directly used the juice function of a soymilk maker, and the effect is the same. Just use whatever tools you have on hand; those in the kitchen don't need to fuss over details.
Step 4
The blending time doesn't need to be very long; about 10 seconds is enough. This way, the blended hawthorn soup will have some crushed granules, which personally I feel gives a better texture. The longer you blend, the finer the liquid will be; after a few minutes, it will take on a fruit tea-like consistency. It depends on the texture everyone prefers; if you like it smooth, blend it a bit longer.
Step 5
Pour the hawthorn soup into a pot and heat over high heat. If the hawthorn puree is relatively dry, you can add some clean water appropriately. Don't worry about the hawthorn soup becoming too thin from adding too much water; a lot of water is consumed during the subsequent simmering process.
Step 6
As the temperature increases, the color of the hawthorn soup will gradually darken. After boiling, there will be some foam; skim off the foam.
Step 7
Wash the lily bulbs, red dates, and goji berries clean; the lily bulbs can be slightly soaked until soft. Pit the red dates and cut them into small pieces.
Step 8
Turn to medium-low heat, add the chopped red dates, lily bulbs, goji berries, dried cranberries, and rock sugar, and continue to simmer for 30~40 minutes until it reaches your preferred thickness. Turn off the heat, add an appropriate amount of sweet osmanthus syrup, and stir evenly.
