Dead Bone Cookies / Ossi dei Morti
A crispy cookie traditionally eaten on All Souls' Day, named for its bone-like shape.

unsalted butter
8 tbsp
eggs

all-purpose flour (sifted)
2 cup
vanilla extract
1 tsp
chopped almonds or pistachios (ground, optional)

Preheat the oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Prepare the baking sheets
Lightly grease two baking sheets.

Mix the dough
In a medium-sized bowl, mix the sugar, butter, and eggs. Gradually add the flour and stir until smooth. Add the vanilla extract and chopped nuts, mixing until well combined.

Shape
Take a small piece of dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and shape it into an elongated bone shape. Place them 1 inch apart on the baking sheets.

Bake
Bake for 10 minutes, or until the cookies turn light brown. Remove them from the baking sheets with a spatula and place on a wire rack to cool.
