Ingredients

Puff pastry dough to taste
Egg wash to taste
Sugar (coarse granules preferred) to taste
Almonds (chopped) optional

Instructions

1

Step 1

Roll out the puff pastry dough into strips 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick, and cut them to 4 inches (10 cm) wide.

2

Step 2

Brush the surface of the dough with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse sugar or a mixture of sugar and chopped almonds. Use a rolling pin to gently press the sugar and nuts into the dough.

3

Step 3

Flip the dough over, and repeat the same method on the other side: brush with egg wash, then sprinkle with sugar and almonds.

4

Step 4

Cut the sheet crosswise into small strips about 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide and 4 inches (10 cm) long.

5

Step 5

Twist each strip into a spiral. Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet and gently press down both ends so they don't unravel during baking.

6

Step 6

Bake at 425°F (220°C) until golden brown and crisp.
