Ingredients

active dry yeast 1 envelope
warm water 1 c.
salt 1/2 tsp.
olive oil or vegetable oil 2 tbsp.
all-purpose flour 2 1/2 c.
pizza sauce (see recipe below)
mozzarella cheese (shredded) 8 oz.
pizza toppings (as desired)
tomato paste 1 6-oz. can
whole tomatoes (crushed with a spoon) 1 16-oz. can
garlic (minced) 2 cloves
oregano 1 tsp.
basil 1 tsp.
olive oil or vegetable oil 1 tsp.
onion (chopped) 1/4 c.
green bell pepper (seeded and chopped, optional) 1

Instructions

1

Make the pizza dough

Dissolve the yeast in 1 cup of warm water. Stir in the salt and oil. Gradually add the flour and stir. Beat vigorously for 20 strokes. Let the dough rest for about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a warm spot, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise until doubled in size (about 45 minutes). Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough in half.

2

Shape

Lightly oil 2 baking sheets or 2 10-inch pizza pans. Using floured fingers, press each half of the dough into a 10-inch circle. Pinch the edges with your fingers to keep the sauce from running off.

3

Make the pizza sauce

In a large bowl, mix all the pizza sauce ingredients together with a fork until well combined.

4

Assemble

Spread the pizza sauce over the dough. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese and your favorite toppings.

5

Bake

Bake at 425°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Let rest at least 5 minutes before cutting.
