Pumpkin Flower Steamed Buns

Adding pumpkin to steamed mantou makes it wonderfully fluffy and soft, with a beautiful flower-like appearance that the whole family enjoys. This pumpkin blossom mantou is made with Arawana Australian wheat flour, milled from 100% imported Australian wheat. The flour is finely milled, naturally pale in color, and has a pleasantly chewy texture—ideal for mantou. The resulting dough is fluffy, soft, and highly nutritious. Tastier than meat buns and even more popular than long-bean fritters!

Ingredients

flour 250 g
pumpkin 80 g
yeast 1 g
granulated sugar 40 g

Instructions

1

Step 1

Ingredients: Australian wheat flour 250 g, pumpkin 80 g, granulated sugar 40 g, yeast 1 g.

2

Step 2

Peel the pumpkin, scoop out the pulp and seeds, slice it, add the granulated sugar, place it in a steamer basket over water, and steam until tender.

3

Step 3

Mash the steamed pumpkin with a stainless steel spoon. Measure out 80 g of pumpkin puree, add the yeast and 100 g of flour, mix well, and knead into a smooth dough. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside to rise.

4

Step 4

For the white dough: bring 20 g of granulated sugar and water to a boil, wait until the sugar has dissolved, then let it cool. Combine 150 g of flour with the yeast, pour in the cooled sugar water, mix well, and knead into a smooth dough. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside to rise.

5

Step 5

Let both the white dough and the pumpkin dough rise until they are double their original size.

6

Step 6

Knead each dough to release the air, then divide each into 9 small balls.

7

Step 7

Roll out the white dough thin with a rolling pin, place a pumpkin dough ball in the center, wrap it up, and knead until smooth.

8

Step 8

Use a knife to make two cuts on top of each dough ball so that the pumpkin dough peeks through. After the second rise, they will look like beautiful blossoms.

9

Step 9

Arrange the shaped bun doughs evenly on the steaming tray, cover with a lid, and let them proof for a second time for 10 minutes.

10

Step 10

Place the tray in the steamer, bring the water to a rolling boil, and steam for 12 minutes. The finished steamed buns are fluffy, soft, and as pretty as flowers—delicious!
