Experience the delicate balance of earthy matcha and sweet cream in this light, airy sponge roll. Perfect for an afternoon tea, this dessert offers a refreshing escape with its vibrant green hue and soft texture.

Ingredients

Flour
Matcha powder
White sugar
Yeast

Instructions

Fill a bowl with water, add a spoonful of white sugar and half a spoonful of yeast. Mix well and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Slowly pour the water into the flour and stir until it forms flaky crumbs.

Knead into a dough, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rest for about 2 hours.

Knead the rested dough again and divide it into two parts.

Take one portion of dough, knead in matcha powder, and form a green dough.

Press both the white and green doughs flat, then place the green dough on top of the white dough.

Roll the dough sheet into a rectangle with an even thickness as much as possible (it doesn't matter if it's irregular).

Slowly roll up the flattened dough sheet.

Cut into evenly sized rolls with a knife.

Place them in the steamer and let proof for another 30 minutes.

Turn on high heat; once the water starts boiling, steam for 15 minutes.
