Satay Beef Pie

Ingredients

olive oil to taste
minced garlic to taste
shallots to taste
diced onion to taste
satay sauce to taste
ground beef to taste
water to taste
sugar to taste
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
flour (to adjust filling consistency) to taste
puff pastry (rolled to 3 mm thick, cut into 12.5 cm × 17 cm rectangles) as needed
egg wash (brushed on pie surface) to taste

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 220°C.

Heat a frying pan, add olive oil, minced garlic, shallots and diced onion, and sauté until fragrant. Add the satay sauce and ground beef, and stir-fry for 5 minutes. Then add water, sugar, salt and black pepper to season. Finally, add flour to adjust the consistency of the filling. Remove from heat, let cool, and set aside.

Use a wooden rolling pin to roll out the pastry to 3 mm thick, then cut into 12.5 cm × 17 cm rectangles.

Place the satay beef filling in the center of the pastry. Brush water on both ends, fold in half, and use a fork to press a crimped pattern along the pastry edges.

Arrange the satay beef pies on a greased baking tray. Brush a layer of egg wash over the pie surface. Let rest for 30 minutes, then brush another layer of egg wash.

Bake the satay beef pies in the oven for 25-30 minutes, until the surface is golden brown.
