Ingredients

Sugar paste, fondant, or almond paste (add gum tragacanth if using almond paste) to taste
Royal icing (for adhering and decoration) to taste

Instructions

1

Draw the blueprint

First, draw the top, bottom, and side panels to actual size on paper, extending the lines beyond the edges of the square shapes.

2

Prepare the work surface

Transfer the drawing to a flat board and cover it with parchment or wax paper so the drawn lines show through.

3

Roll out the paste

Roll out the paste to an even thickness (about 1/8 inch / 3 mm) and lay it over the paper covering the drawing.

4

Cutting

Using the visible extended lines as guides, cut the paste to the precise dimensions and shapes.

5

Drying

Transfer the cut pieces along with the paper to another flat board to dry and prevent warping. After about 1 hour, when the surface has formed a skin, cover with paper and flip so the other side can dry as well. Flip occasionally to ensure even drying.

6

Assembly

Once the sugar panels have hardened, use royal icing to glue them together and decorate as desired.
