Tofu Strips with Celery Stir-Fry

Story

This classic stir-fry comes together in under 20 minutes, making it perfect for busy weeknights. The key is to cook out the moisture from the celery before adding the seasonings, which gives the dish a nicer texture.

Ingredients

firm tofu 200g, cut into thin strips
celery 300g, cut into diagonal pieces (include leaves)
garlic 3 cloves, finely minced
cooking oil 2 tablespoons
light soy sauce 1 tablespoon
oyster sauce 1 teaspoon
chicken powder 1/2 teaspoon
salt to taste

Instructions

1

Heat the pan

Pour oil into a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and stir briefly until fragrant—about 30 seconds. Be careful not to burn it.

2

Cook the tofu

Add the tofu strips to the pan. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden on the edges.

3

Add celery

Add the celery pieces (including the leaves) to the pan. Continue stir-frying for 3-4 minutes. The celery will release some water—keep cooking until that moisture evaporates.

4

Season and serve

Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, chicken powder, and a pinch of salt. Toss everything together until well coated. Serve hot over steamed rice.
