Ingredients

all-purpose flour 1 cup
ground almonds 1/2 cup
sugar 1/4 cup
butter (cold) 1/2 cup
almond extract 1/4 teaspoon
cream cheese (softened) 1 package (8 ounces)
sugar 1/4 cup
cream of tartar 1/4 teaspoon
egg 1
packed brown sugar 1/3 cup
all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon
ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon
tart apples (thinly sliced, peeled) 4 cups
slivered almonds 1/3 cup

Instructions

1

Make the Crust

Mix the flour, ground almonds, and sugar in a small bowl. Work the cold butter into the mixture until crumbly. Stir in the almond extract. Knead the dough into a ball and place it between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll it into a 10-inch circle. Transfer it to a greased 9-inch springform pan, gently pressing the dough onto the bottom and sides. Chill for 30 minutes.

2

Make the Cheese Filling

Beat the cream cheese, sugar, and cream of tartar in a mixing bowl until smooth. Add the egg and mix on low speed until just combined. Pour the mixture over the crust.

3

Make the Apple Topping

Combine the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add the apples and stir until coated. Spoon the mixture over the cheese filling. Sprinkle with the slivered almonds.

4

Bake and Cool

Bake at 350°F for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Carefully run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the sides, then cool for 1 hour. Refrigerate overnight. Remove the sides of the pan.
