Braised Beef with White Radish

Ingredients

Beef (washed and cut into 5–6 cm cubes) 500 g
White radish (peeled, washed, and cut into 5–6 cm cubes) 1
Cinnamon bark a small piece
Star anise 1
Bay leaves 2 slices
Small red chili 1
Ginger (smashed) 1
Cooking wine 2 spoonfuls
Light soy sauce 2 spoonfuls
Dark soy sauce 1 spoonful
Green onions 3 or 4
Fine salt 1 spoonful

Instructions

1

Blanching

Wash the beef and the peeled white radish, then cut both into 5–6 cm cubes. Fill a large clay pot with water, add the beef, and bring it to a boil. Skim off the blood foam until the beef broth becomes clear.

2

Braising

Add the washed cinnamon bark, star anise, bay leaves, small red chili, and smashed ginger to the broth. Pour in 2 spoonfuls of cooking wine, 2 spoonfuls of light soy sauce, and 1 spoonful of dark soy sauce. Cover the clay pot and simmer on medium-low heat for one hour.

3

Add the radish

Add the white radish chunks and braise together for another half hour. Season with fine salt to taste, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and serve.
