Ingredients

self-raising flour
cocoa powder
caster sugar
margarine (softened)
free-range eggs
baking powder
Nutella or chocolate hazelnut spread 1 x 3 oz jar
Maltesers or other malted milk balls (to decorate)

Instructions

1

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 170°C/325°F/Gas mark 3. Line a 12-hole muffin tin (pan) with cupcake cases (baking cups).

2

Step 2

Sift the flour, cocoa powder and sugar into a large bowl, food processor or mixer. Plonk in all the cake ingredients and whisk away until pale and fluffy (use an electric whisk if you are using a large bowl).

3

Step 3

Plop heaped teaspoons of the mixture (batter) into the prepared cases, and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes until firm and springy to the touch. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

Step 4

Once cool, spread Nutella on top of each cupcake, then place Maltesers on top. You can be as generous as you want. If you want to create a veritable tower (and why wouldn't you - unless you've eaten them all already?), use a splodge of Nutella to glue the Maltesers together.
