Egg and Sausage Strata
An ideal brunch dish for entertaining weekend guests. Prepare ahead and chill overnight to develop rich, full flavor.

white bread (crusts removed, cubed)

pork sausage (bulk)
1.5 lb
onion (chopped)
⅓ cup
green bell pepper (chopped)

diced pimentos (chopped, drained)

Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp
mustard powder (ground)
1 tsp
salt
½ tsp
black pepper

oregano (dried)

Prepare the base
Spread the bread cubes in the bottom of a greased 13x9x2-inch baking dish; set aside.

Cook the filling
In a skillet, brown the sausage, onion, and green pepper over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the pimentos; sprinkle over the bread.

Mix the egg mixture
In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, pepper, and oregano. Pour over the sausage mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake
Cover and bake at 325°F for 1 hour 20 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes more, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
