Festive Wreath Icing

Ingredients

confectioners' sugar 1 1/2 cups
water (adjust amount as needed) 1 1/2 tablespoons
red food coloring (tint to berry red) to taste
green food coloring (tint to evergreen green) to taste

Instructions

1

Make Base Icing

In a small bowl, mix sugar and water until smooth and uniform. If too thick, add a few drops of water, but maintain a thick, smooth consistency.

2

Color the Icing

Transfer about 2 tablespoons of the icing to a small cup. Add enough red food coloring to a small portion of the icing to tint it berry red. Add enough green food coloring to the remaining icing to tint it evergreen green. Adjust the icing consistency if needed so it holds its shape when piped but can be pushed through a fine piping tip.

3

Decorate

Pipe each colored icing into a piping bag or a paper cone fitted with a fine piping tip. Use the green icing to pipe closely spaced, fine zigzag lines horizontally on each ring to simulate wreath leaves. Then randomly pipe small clusters of red dots to simulate berries. Let stand until the icing is completely set, approximately 1 hour.
