French-Style Braised Potatoes

Ingredients

Potatoes (washed, peeled and diced) 500 g
Onion (peeled and chopped) 40 g
Butter 25 g
Garlic (peeled and crushed) a pinch
Thick vegetable broth 125 g
Bay leaves 2 slices
Salt a pinch
Ground black pepper a pinch
MSG a pinch
Vegetable oil a pinch
White wine a pinch
Chopped celery (for garnish) a pinch

Instructions

1

Preparation

Wash the potatoes, peel them and cut into dice. Peel and chop the onion. Peel and crush the garlic.

2

Sautéing

Place a thick-bottomed aluminum pot over heat, melt the butter, then add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion turns translucent. Add the diced potatoes and stir for a few minutes. Once the potatoes are evenly coated with oil, pour in the vegetable broth, add the bay leaves and a pinch of salt, ground pepper and MSG, and stir well to combine.

3

Braising

If the liquid is too low, add a little more, but not too much. Simmer gently for about 45 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent sticking. When the potatoes are tender (and the sauce has thickened), stir in some vegetable oil and wine, mix well, and serve garnished with chopped celery.
