Honey Glazed Char Siu Chicken Roll

Honey Char Siu Chicken Roll

Spend just 13 yuan on 2 chicken legs for this recipe: season with Lee Kum Kee char siu sauce and other basic condiments, marinate for 24 hours, then roast for 30 minutes to make over 500g of beautifully colored char siu chicken roll. The meat is tender, fragrant, and has a sweet, appetizing flavor – my family loved it so much they offered to take a taxi over to try it! It’s simple to prepare, uses quality, genuine ingredients at an extremely low cost, contains no added artificial ingredients or preservatives, and is safe and healthy to eat. I’ll never buy pre-made char siu chicken rolls from the supermarket again!

light soy sauce 3 tbsp
salt to taste
cooking wine to taste
honey to taste
scallion to taste
ginger to taste
garlic to taste

Instructions

1

Step 1

Soak the chicken legs in cold water to draw out the blood.

2

Step 2

Carefully remove the leg bone from the inside, wash, and drain off the water. Try to keep the chicken skin intact.

3

Step 3

Cut the scallions into segments and slice the ginger and garlic.

4

Step 4

In a bowl, combine all the seasonings with the scallions, ginger, and garlic, and mix well.

5

Step 5

Place the chicken in a container, rub thoroughly with the prepared marinade, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours. Turn the chicken 2–3 times during marinating for even flavor.

6

Step 6

Lay aluminum foil on a board, place the marinated chicken on it, roll into a chicken roll, brush with more marinade, then wrap tightly in the foil.

7

Step 7

Twist and seal both ends firmly.

8

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 180°C with top and bottom heat, and bake on the middle rack for 20 minutes.

9

Step 9

Remove the foil roll, open the foil, pour off the rendered fat and juices, and generously brush honey all over the chicken roll.

10

Step 10

Return to the oven at 170°C with top and bottom heat on the middle rack for another 10 minutes, brushing with honey once more halfway through.

11

Step 11

Take out of the oven.

12

Step 12

Let cool, then slice.
