Joy Buzzer!

A decorative cake shaped like a bumblebee, with the body covered in colorful star stripes and finished with antennae and wings. Serves 16.

Ingredients

White fondant (add Gum-Tex; dye separately into orange 1 oz, violet 2 oz, light rose 8 oz, deep rose 16 oz) 30 oz
Buttercream frosting (make according to recipe) to taste
Food coloring (lemon yellow, rose, violet, leaf green, orange, black) to taste
piping gel (for adhering) to taste
Fondant colors (for making wings and inserts) to taste

Instructions

Advance Preparation

Make antennae 2-3 days in advance (page 124). Prepare base board: trace shapes with cake pan and wing patterns, cut to fit and wrap with Fanci-Foil (page 112)

Prepare Cake and Fondant

Bake and cool 1 cake layer. Trim the animal cracker cake's ears off. Dye fondant into specified colors separately, roll to 1/8 inch thick

Assemble Wings

Cut out deep rose double wings using the pattern; flip pattern and cut another set. Brush with piping gel and place on base board. Cut light rose upper and lower inserts using the pattern; flip and cut another set, brush with wet brush and attach to wings

Add Decorative Circles

Cut out 24 violet circles using the wide end of tip #12, brush with wet and attach

Assemble Head

Place head. Outline and fill eyes using tip #12 (gently flatten with a finger coated in cornstarch). Add pupils with tip #6 dots and outline mouth. Fill head with stars using tip #19; add dimension with stacked mouths. Roll a 1.5-inch tall orange fondant cone nose and attach

Assemble Body and Finish

Place oval cake body. Fill with stars using tip #19, alternating different colors to form 1-inch wide stripes. Insert antennae
