Ingredients

Kidney beans (soaked in warm water and peeled) 400 g
Red bean paste 100 g
Hawthorn cake (sliced into even thin pieces) 100 g
Baking soda 2 g

Instructions

1

Cook the kidney beans

Soak the kidney beans in warm water until soft, then peel them. Boil in a pot for about 30 minutes, adding the baking soda during cooking. After boiling, steam for about 20 minutes, then pass through a sieve to make a smooth kidney bean paste. Set aside.

2

Prepare the hawthorn cake

Slice the hawthorn cake into even, thin pieces. Set aside.

3

Shape the pastry

Knead the kidney bean paste until smooth, flatten with a knife into thin sheets, and cut into four pieces. Spread red bean paste on two of the pieces, lay the hawthorn slices on another piece, stack them all together, and cut into diamond shapes.
