Ingredients

butter (cold, diced) 175 g
plain flour 300 g
orange zest (finely grated) 1
icing sugar 90 g
egg yolks 2
egg white 1
icing sugar 200 g
food coloring (different colors) 2
soft candies to taste

Instructions

1

Step 1

Place the butter, flour, and orange zest in a food processor and mix until the texture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the icing sugar and egg yolks. Mix until a smooth dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 200°C (gas mark 7). Grease 2 baking sheets.

3

Step 3

Roll out the dough on a floured work surface. Cut out different cookie shapes (squares, rounds, hearts), each at least 7.5 cm in diameter or width.

4

Step 4

Place the cookies on the baking sheets, leaving a little space between them. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges start to turn golden.

5

Step 5

Let rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes until firm, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

6

Step 6

Decoration: Place the egg white and icing sugar in a bowl and beat until stiff peaks form.

7

Step 7

Divide the icing into 2 bowls and add a few drops of different food coloring to each.

8

Step 8

Transfer each of the 2 colored icings into a separate plastic bag and push the icing into one corner.

9

Step 9

Snip a small corner off each bag so you can pipe thin lines. Write each guest's name or initials on the cookies. Use the 2 icings to pipe decorative borders around the cookies (dots, straight lines, wavy lines, or zigzag lines).

10

Step 10

Cut the soft candies into small pieces. Stick the candy pieces or silver dragees onto the icing on the cookies and let set for at least 1 hour.
