Sesame Scallion Sausage Buns

Story

These soft buns are perfect for little hands and big appetites alike. The combination of sweet bread with savory sausage creates an irresistible snack or light meal.

Ingredients

bread flour 300g
instant yeast 1 tsp
sugar 30g
salt 1/2 tsp
milk 160ml
unsalted butter 30g, softened
cocktail sausages 6 links
egg 1 (for egg wash)
scallions 2 stalks, finely chopped
sesame seeds 1 tbsp

Instructions

1

Make the dough

Combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Pour in the milk and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Add the softened butter and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

2

First rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest in a warm spot until it doubles in size, about 30 minutes.

3

Shape the buns

Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long oval shape, about the length of your sausage. Place a sausage in the center of each oval and wrap the dough around it, pinching the seams to seal.

4

Second rise

Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, seam-side down. Cover loosely and let them rise again until they're about 1.5 times their size, roughly 20 minutes.

5

Finish and bake

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Beat the egg and brush the tops of the buns generously. Sprinkle with chopped scallions and sesame seeds. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
