Small Apple and Cinnamon Turnovers
French apple cinnamon puff pastry turnovers, a classic tea-time treat that can be enjoyed hot or cold.
Ingredients
Puff pastry
400 g
Apples (peeled, cored, cubed)
500 g
Powdered sugar
60 g
Egg yolk (beaten, for brushing)
1
Ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp
Water (for cooking the apples)
2 tbsp
Instructions
1
Make the apple filling
Peel the apples and cut them into quarters, then remove the cores and seeds. Place them in a pot with 2 tablespoons of water and the sugar, bring to a boil, then reduce to low heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Sprinkle in the cinnamon powder.
2
Shape the turnovers
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into discs about 12 cm in diameter. Spoon the apple filling onto one half of each disc, leaving the edges clear. Brush the edges with water, fold in half, and pinch to seal into turnovers.
3
Bake
Pinch the edges firmly to seal. Brush with the beaten egg yolk and bake in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
