Woven Pulled Sugar Basket

Ingredients

Pulled sugar paste to taste
Poured sugar or pulled sugar sheet (for base) to taste
Wooden board (drilled with an odd number of angled holes) 1
Wooden pegs (matching the holes) several

Instructions

1

Prepare the mold

Prepare a base board drilled with an odd number of holes, evenly distributed in a circular, oval, or square pattern, with a slight tilt. Insert wooden pegs and lightly oil them.

2

Weave the basket body

Take a ball of soft pulled sugar and stretch it into a sugar rope. Starting from the inner edge of the pegs, weave the sugar rope back and forth between the pegs, keeping the thickness uniform, until reaching the desired height.

3

Replace the supports

Make pulled sugar rods matching the number and size of the pegs. Remove each peg one by one and replace it with a pulled sugar rod. Trim the top with a hot knife if necessary.

4

Make the base

Form a basket base using poured sugar or thinly rolled pulled sugar, and attach it to the basket with hot sugar syrup.

5

Decorate the edges

Twist two pulled sugar ropes into a braided rope, coil it around the top and bottom edges of the basket, and seal the joints. For handles, shape wire and wrap sugar rope around it.
