Ariel's Cameo Cake
Ariel-themed cameo-style decorated cake with a purple fondant base and intricate fondant embellishments, perfect for a Disney princess celebration.

Make fondant border decorations in advance
Make fondant border decorations in advance (page 125).
Prepare the base board
Dye 40 oz of fondant purple. Cut the foam core into a 19½ x 16-inch oval and wrap with fondant (page 123).
Process the cake
Bake and cool the cake. Smooth the sides with buttercream to match the base board.
Outline facial and body features
Use tip #3 to outline hair, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, body, and swimsuit top. Use tip #2 to outline pupils. Use tip #3 to fill in lips, pupils, eye whites, and irises (smooth with a cornstarch-dusted decorating brush). Use tip #2 to add dot eyes highlights.
Cover remaining areas
Use tip #3 to outline flowers and tip #16 to cover with stars. Pipe tip #3 petal lines and flower center dots. Cover remaining areas with tip #16 stars. Use tip #2 to pull out eyelashes.
Assembly
Place cake on base board. Pipe tip #363 shell border.
Decorate the base board
Dye 3 oz of fondant green and roll to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut three strips ¼-inch wide x 18 inches long. Apply with a wet brush about 1 inch from the board edge. Attach the bow. Roll reserved rose fondant to 1/8-inch thickness and cut two strips 1 x 7 inches long for ribbons. Attach with a wet brush; support with cotton balls until dry. Attach remaining decorations. Remove cotton balls before serving.
