Story

This showstopping dessert combines two beloved flavors in one irresistible treat. The chocolate cake layer provides a rich, moist foundation while the strawberry cheesecake on top stays perfectly creamy.

Ingredients

all-purpose flour 1 cup
Dutch-processed cocoa powder 1/3 cup
eggs 3 large
cream cheese 16 ounces
fresh strawberries 1 cup, hulled and halved
sugar 3/4 cup divided
unsalted butter 1/2 cup, melted
sour cream 1/2 cup
vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
salt 1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

1

Prepare the chocolate cake layer

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. In a large bowl, beat 1 egg with 1/4 cup sugar until light. Stir in melted butter and vanilla, then fold in the dry ingredients until just combined. Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.

2

Make the strawberry cheesecake filling

In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat cream cheese until smooth and fluffy. Add remaining 1/2 cup sugar and beat until incorporated. Add remaining 2 eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Blend in sour cream and vanilla until silky. Gently fold in fresh strawberries.

3

Assemble and bake

Carefully pour the cheesecake filling over the chocolate cake layer in the pan. Place pan on a baking sheet. Bake for 55-65 minutes until edges are set but center still has a slight jiggle. Turn off oven, leave door cracked, and let cheesecake rest inside for 1 hour.

4

Chill and serve

Remove from oven and cool completely at room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best texture. Run a knife around the edge before releasing the springform. Top with fresh strawberry slices before serving.
