Frosting Fake Ice Cream
A moldable faux ice cream made from store-bought frosting and powdered sugar, suitable for food photography styling.
Ingredients
Store-bought premade frosting (choose a flavor close to the target color, such as vanilla, strawberry, or cream cheese)
1 container
Powdered sugar (added in batches)
about 2/3 bag (2 lb package)
Gel food coloring (optional, picked up with a toothpick)
a tiny amount
Instructions
1
Preparation
Place the store-bought premade frosting into the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal blade.
2
Coloring
If coloring is needed (for example, using cream cheese frosting to make green), add a tiny amount of gel food coloring at this stage. Dipping about 1/2 inch of a wooden pick into the coloring is usually enough. Pulse a few times to combine.
3
Adjusting the Texture
Add the powdered sugar in batches, stirring constantly, until you reach the right texture for fake ice cream. You will typically need most of a 2-pound bag of powdered sugar (leaving about 1 1/2 cups behind).
