Honey Red Beans

Red beans carry a symbolic meaning of longing in classical literature and offer high nutritional value. Rich in vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, and selenium, they are traditionally valued for supporting the spleen and kidneys, nourishing the heart and blood, and reducing water retention. Cooking a larger batch at a time is recommended—these soft, glutinous beans are perfect for filling bean buns, baking bread, or adding to a variety of desserts.

red beans 180g
rock sugar 80g
water as needed

Instructions

1

Step 1

Ingredients: red beans and rock sugar.

2

Step 2

Soak the red beans in advance, or you can skip this step; just be sure to add enough water and extend the cooking time when boiling the red beans.

3

Step 3

Place the red beans into an electric pressure cooker, add enough water to cover the beans, and start the pressure cooker. Once it comes up to pressure, cook for 16 minutes.

4

Step 4

Open the pressure cooker lid and add the rock sugar. You can also add the rock sugar at the same time as the red beans to save a step.

5

Step 5

Heat the pressure cooker again until the rock sugar has completely dissolved.

6

Step 6

The finished honey red beans can be used to make all kinds of desserts, bean buns, bread, and more. Of course, you can also enjoy them on their own for a sweet treat.
