Story

This pita bread is made with a bread machine, which makes the process simple and hands-off. During baking, the dough puffs up beautifully to create the signature hollow pocket inside, perfect for stuffing with your favorite fillings.

Ingredients

water 1 1/4 cups
bread flour 3 1/2 cups
salt 1 teaspoon
olive oil 2 tablespoons
instant yeast 2 teaspoons

Instructions

1

Mixing Dough

Place all dough ingredients into the bread machine according to the manufacturer's instructions and set the dough cycle.

2

Shaping

After the cycle completes, remove the dough and place it on a floured work surface. Knead briefly, then divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and press into rounds approximately 1 inch thick.

3

Resting

Cover the dough with a damp towel and let rest for 10 minutes.

4

Preheating the Oven

Preheat the oven to 475°F, placing a baking stone or baking tray inside to preheat.

5

Rolling the Dough

Roll each piece of dough into a round 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.

6

Baking

Spray water into the 475°F oven, quickly place the first piece of dough inside, reduce the heat to 450°F, and bake for 3 minutes.

7

Cooling and Storage

Remove and let cool, then cover with a damp towel. Once completely cooled, place in a sealed bag and freeze for storage.
