Beef braised at length with white radish and spices, rich and flavorful broth, warming and nourishing

Ingredients

white radish 1
cinnamon bark 1 small piece
star anise 1
bay leaves 2
small red chili 1
ginger 1 piece
cooking wine 2 tbsp
light soy sauce 2 tbsp
dark soy sauce 1 tbsp
scallion 3‑4
fine salt 1 tbsp

Instructions

Step 1

Cut the beef and peeled white radish into 5‑6 cm cubes. Fill a large clay pot with water, add the beef and bring to a boil, skim off the foam until the broth becomes clear.

Step 2

Add the rinsed cinnamon bark, star anise, bay leaves, small red chili, and smashed ginger to the broth. Pour in 2 tbsp cooking wine, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, and 1 tbsp dark soy sauce. Cover the pot and simmer over low‑medium heat for 1 hour.

Add the radish cubes and continue to stew for another 30 minutes. Season with fine salt to taste, then garnish with chopped scallions and serve.
