Osmanthus Lotus Root and Red Date Porridge

This comforting dessert soup combines the silky texture of lotus root powder with the natural sweetness of red dates and the floral aroma of osmanthus. It is perfect for a gentle breakfast or a soothing evening treat.

Ingredients

Water 800 ml
Lotus root powder (Osmanthus flavor) 50 g
Red dates 6-8 pieces
Cooked rice 100 g
Rock sugar to taste

Prepare the Ingredients

Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. While the water heats up, slice the red dates in half to help them release their flavor and soften quickly in the soup.

Dissolve the Lotus Root Powder

Gradually pour the lotus root powder into the boiling water, whisking continuously in a clockwise motion to prevent clumping. Reduce the heat to low once the mixture begins to thicken and turn translucent. If the consistency becomes too thick, add a splash of water and keep stirring to avoid sticking.

Cook the Porridge

Stir the cooked rice into the thickened lotus root mixture. Let it simmer until heated through, then add the halved red dates and rock sugar. Continue to cook over low heat, stirring gently, until the dates are soft and the porridge is smooth and glossy.
