Story

This light and airy sponge roll is baked until golden, then spread with fruity strawberry jam while still warm. Rolled up and sliced into bite-sized pieces, it makes for a simple yet delightful treat with afternoon tea.

Ingredients

Cake flour
Milk
Salad oil
Caster sugar
Salt
Eggs 4

Instructions

Step 1

Weigh out the required ingredients: flour, eggs, sugar, oil, milk, salt.

Separate the egg whites and yolks; the bowl for the egg whites must be free of water and oil; add white sugar and a very small amount of salt to the yolks and beat.

Add the sifted low-gluten flour.

Stir the batter until evenly mixed.

Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until they reach soft peaks.

First, take half of the egg whites and add them to the egg yolk batter.

Mix evenly, folding up and down.

Pour the folded mixture back into the remaining egg whites and fold until evenly mixed.

Pour into a baking tray lined with parchment paper, then shake to remove some air bubbles.

After preheating the oven, bake at 150 degrees Celsius in the middle rack for 20 minutes.
